The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Nova Scotia (SCDANS) is a non-profit organization. The organization was formed in November 2014 to raise public awareness about sickle cell disease (SCD) and to support individuals living with SCD, along with their family members and friends.

Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia was created by the merger of Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) and Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre (HILC) – together we have a combined experience of over fifty years serving immigrants in Nova Scotia. We are the largest immigrant-serving agency in Atlantic Canada with over 115 staff members from more than 30 countries. North End Community Health Centre

The Centre was founded in 1971 by a group of local residents in response to a need for health care services in North End Halifax. Located on Gottingen Street, we are in the heart of a unique and culturally diverse community. The Centre partners with many local community organizations and service providers to support community health. The Centre also serves as an educational learning environment for students in the health profession. The Centre is funded by the Provincial Department of Health managed through the Capital District Health Authority, MSI and through various grants and charitable donations. The North End Community Health Association encourages members and program users to be involved in setting the direction for their health Centre. Users of the Centre, residents and friends of the Centre are encouraged to become members. The Board of Directors is drawn from members of the Association and oversees the governance of the Centre through planning and policy setting. Health Association of African Canadians (HAAC)(HRM Address)

The Health Association of African Canadians (HAAC) was formed in 2000 to address African Canadian health issues and the system inequities affecting health. Prompting the formation of HAAC was a project was sponsored by the Dalhousie School of Nursing and the Atlantic Center of Excellence for Women’s Health. The project focused on women’s health but stakeholders quickly acknowledged that women’s health could not be examined in isolation. Thus, HAAC was formed with the understanding that women’s health was a subset of the health of the entire family. Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute

As an Africentric Institute, the DBDLI creates educational change and genuine opportunities for learners and communities of African ancestry to reach their full potential. Educational research is vital to achieving our vision. We conduct and disseminate learnings from that research providing policy analysis that informs policymakers, educators, parents and the general public on how to best improve educational opportunities and outcomes for Nova Scotian learners of African descent. The Institute works directly with African Nova Scotian / Canadian organizations, communities, government partners, and educational institutions to identify, develop and implement educational and community capacity enhancement policies, programs and services.

Menelik Hall Community Center

The name “Menelik” was derived from an African Prince. The building was erected in 1936 by members of the black community who either purchased shares or provided their labor and/or materials in exchange for shares in the hall. Jamaican Cultural Association of Nova Scotia (JCANS)

The JCANS are a volunteer-driven association consisting of a diverse group of locals, newcomers, students, professionals and active retirees with direct heritage/ ties to and allied support for the renowned Island of Jamaica. It was founded is 2012 (the year that Jamaica celebrated 50 years of Independence). We meet and uphold our mission statement by engaging in the following activities: (a) Education: we provide students with Jamaican heritage living in NS and JA with bursaries and school sponsorship. (b) Welcoming committees: select group members are responsible for providing newcomers with support and access to resources. (c) Accessing resources and necessities: clothing, food, social and health services, and employment counselling.
