Nelson Whynder Elementary School

Nelson Whynder, who donated the land on which Nelson Whynder Elementary School in North Preston stands. Nelson Whynder (1864-1939) donated the land for the first school in North Preston. The current Nelson Whynder Elementary, built-in 1960, is the third school to be built on the property. A plaque in the school commemorates him. Adult Learning Program - Africentric Learning Option

Dartmouth, Canada

If you self-identify as Black/African Nova Scotian, you have the option to earn your high school diploma from an Africentric perspective through the Akerley Campus from anywhere in the province through virtual, online-synchronous, teacher-led learning. In your first year of the program, you discuss topics such as culture, ancestry, traditions and world view. Learn about the knowledge and accomplishments of people of African ancestry and how they've influenced the world. Develop your confidence and potential by gaining exposure to African Canadian educators and mentors. In your second year, transition into the ALP program to complete the additional credits you need to earn your high school diploma.
