About

Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, in collaboration with the Health Association of African Canadian (HAAC), has embarked on a new project.

This project is geared at raising awareness and providing public education and support for members of the African Nova Scotian communities living with dementia and their care partners. African Nova Scotian communities face barriers to equitable access to health care. As part of its mandate, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia (ASNS) has committed to providing education and support for persons with dementia and their partners. ASNS plans to achieve our objectives by:

· Expanding the level of service and identify needs specific to dementia information, care and support for African Nova Scotian communities.

· Providing services in a manner that meets the cultural needs of Nova Scotians who identify as people of African descent.

· Supporting the development of equitable and culturally specific programs and supports for people living with dementia and their families/caregivers.

· Communicating the needs of African Nova Scotians to existing ASNS programs

· Building relationships with African Nova Scotian communities and individuals
